A 24-year-old man was partying with some friends at a nightclub on Riazor beach, A Coruña, when, upon leaving the venue, he was attacked with homophobic insults by a group of people, who chased and brutally attacked him shouting ‘shitty faggot’, causing his death. The case occurred in the first days after the COVID19 lockdowns, and generated an intense debate about the normalization and impunity of hate speech and its consequences. The far right tried to poison public opinion by deliberately spreading lies about the case, which were denied by the police investigation.
